WWWE Logo Load Balancing

The term load balancing refers to balancing a load into portions. It can be used generically in many ways in reference to the Web and to networking in general. One of the more popular ways it is used today is to refer to balancing loads on servers such that no one server is bogged down. The idea is to allow for more than one server to distribute the load equally among many servers (whether Gopher, Archie, FTP, Web, etc.). Without load balancing, a server and its resources could be brought crashing to its knees by heavy user demand.
